Here are some photos of the damage to Mistress, my 2003 V-Star 1100 Classic, after we went down. I've already started putting her back together. I've got the handlebars back on. This weekend I plan on removing the windscreen to straighten out the left side bracket. Then install the left rear turn signal housing. I have not ordered the lenses yet. Thanks to some of the folks over on my favorite forum the V-Star 1100 Riders forum for helping acquire some used parts inexpensively. If you ride a V-Star 1100, you need to hang out there.
You can read about the accident here:http://midlifemotorcyclemadness.blogspot.com/2010/10/ride-gone-bad-part-1.html
Gonna need a new light bar.
Windscreen has some character marks.
Left saddle bag was bad already & now is a total loss. Oh well, I wanted hard bags anyway.
There is where the handlebar controls dinged the tank.
The left handlebar mount was bent back and was extremely hard to get out.
My sons helped me pry it off using a large pry bar!
Ride on,
Torch
Yup, that there is some damage... Very glad it's not worse. Going down sucks, not as bad as going down and staying "down" though. These things happen don't they? I go over and over my past accidents for at least a year, figuring out what went wrong, how I could have reacted better, then I work on strengthening those weak points.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to read the Mistress is getting her face back on and will soon be ready for the public once more.
Dam man, you ok? Hope you are up and riding soon.
ReplyDeleteBig Al
Oh lord, I missed the previous posts about your accident but have just read them - very sobering to read and I'm so sorry that you came to grief. Chessie's certainly right about going over old accidents and your post has just triggered tome memories for me.
ReplyDeleteHope you've completely healed by now.
You walked away! You did it right!
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot to be said for sons with large prybars! Glad you are ok and are getting mistress back together.
ReplyDelete-Peace
I also missed the posts about your accident. Glad you are OK and the bike is fixable. When I had my V Star I was a regular on that V Star Forum. It is a great one. Looking forward to seeing the progress of the bike.
ReplyDeleteWell, I remember the pictures of your foot werent good! I didnt expect the bike to look good, either. However, you get to ride another day.
ReplyDeleteDont be offended but, glad it was you and not your boy. I ride with my son, as well. Im always riding behind him, as well. I swear, I watch his every move. Im a little protective. Hehehe.
Good luck with the re-hab, my friend.
Glad you putting her together, next year's riding season will be upon us fast :-)
ReplyDeleteBoy, I sure hate to see all the carnage. Still I'm glad things were not worse. Lots of work ahead. That's some pry bar! :)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the accident. As others have said though, luckily you were able to walk, learn from what happen, and live to ride another day. And who knows, sounds like it could be a fun project putting Mistress back together again! (hopefully you don't miss too much good riding weather)
ReplyDeletei loved this bike!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteAll the best for 2011
Dear Torch:
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
As lame as this sounds, it could have been much worse. However, I know how every little scratch and scuff on this machine must eat at you. It sounds like you are onto a source of reasonable replacement parts though.
For the exception of the badge on the tank, it looks like the majority of the damaged parts are all bolt-off and bolt-on though. How are you feeling?
Fondest regards,

Hope you can be on the road, pretty soon. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteMan, accidents hurt in more ways then one. Glad your doing okay, good thing you got some stron boys to help!
ReplyDeleteMy friends, Thanks for all the comments. I am truly doing fine. Slow going on repairs presently with all the holidays. Hope to have her back together, improved, by spring!
ReplyDeleteRide on!
I've had my share of motorbike accidents too and I consider myself lucky to be still in one piece. My scars serve as a reminder for me to ride safely. But of course riding safely is to be boring. I'm glad you're okay. I wish you all the best in 2011!
ReplyDeleteMust have been a few bad dreams to follow that one. I'm amazed you don't have bigger scuffs and chewed on paint. Andy fork / frame damage? That's the real pain, anything out of true makes life a serious drag.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're alright. Crashing is something we all worry about, at least when we go down there is a chance we'll come out in one piece, pissed about the incident, no doubt, but alive and ready to keep going.
