Rider Down?
Why do motorcycle forum and blog titles have to sound so negative when a rider does go down? I frequent a lot of motorcycle forums and blogs and I feel that a title like, “Rider Down”, is way too negative. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind hearing of someone in need. The least I can do is throw up a prayer to the big man upstairs, and post a get well soon message. I also enjoy the lessons gleaned from reading the information about what happened and the circumstances leading up to the infraction. If we all read and took heed, there would be less of these reports.
Most of the time if someone does go down they do not stay down permanently, they get back up. Even if it is fatal, they are now on their way someplace else, hopefully a better place. I try to be very optimistic about people and circumstances, always looking for the good in things. It is not always easy to do either because it is far simpler to find the negative aspects of everything.
How about changing our forum or blog titles to something a little more positive? How about these ideas:
Rider Up
Biker Getting Up
Rider Recovering
Biker Riding Again Soon
Rider Ready Soon
Biker Rising
Rider Been Down
Once Fallen
I do not know what would work. I just think there needs to be a positive lean to it. We definitely need to continue to support our fallen comrades, spiritually, mentally, and financially if possible. Everyone needs to be reminded of the inherent dangers of riding on two wheels and how to cautiously avoid becoming another statistic. Ride smarter not less frequently.
Ride on,
Torch

ReplyDeleteInteresting point!
ReplyDeleteHow about Motorcyclist Gets It Up? Sounds a little too porno doesn't it? I'll have to work on this up vibe you're talking about.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Good one.
ReplyDeleteRide on,
Torch
I called my recent entry about one of our prospects crashing "Man Down" because that was the point of the post. Once he's back on the road again, maybe I'll post an entry with a "Rider Up" kind of title.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the sentiment about trying to strike a positive tone, but this feels a little too PC to me. If a guy crashes, that's the story -- if he also happens to walk away from it, that's the happy ending.
Two Buck,
ReplyDeleteYour story "Man Down"; http://www.deadpan.net/ridereport/2009/03/02/man-down/ was a great write up with plenty of media. There was a lot to learn from what happened and I enjoyed reading it, especially since the rider walked away. I definitely am not trying to be politically correct, just want to bring a little positiveness out of something negative that happened. The day I become "PC" I'll have to turn in my "Man Card", lol.
Ride on,
Torch
I've been down.Soker mom on a cell phone. Pulled a "u" turn. Took me down.Mess my Christmas plans up. two mounth in the hospital. Its makes you alot more alurt. I'am just an old cycle rider that can't give it up.
ReplyDelete"Shiny Side Up Again"? I hit a fire engine as it crossed a red light without siren. Cops tried to bust me for riding without 'L' plates, then insisted I go down to their lockup with my arm in plaster to pick up my smashedup, 'L' plate displaying bike. Didn't ride for another 15 years. Getting older and a bit more careful now, but you still never know. Take care all.
